Saturday is Hockey Day in Houston. An event at Saint Arnold Brewery is designed to promote hockey at all levels in the Houston area. The event comes amid news of perhaps more serious talks about bringing an NHL team here.

And, while Houston has been without a professional hockey team since the second iteration of the Houston Aeros left town in 2013, there’s still plenty of hockey being played here at numerous ice rinks across the city and watched here by fanatics and transplants at places like The Maple Leaf Pub.

Houston Matters host Craig Cohen is himself a big hockey fan, and he learns more about the hockey scene in Houston and the Hockey Day event from one of its organizers, Lance Rosenberg from the Houston chapter of Hockey Players in Business.

And he reflects on Houston’s professional hockey history and rabid fanbase with Jack Stanfield, who played for the original Houston Aeros team that won the WHA championship in 1974 and later worked in broadcasting.

The Hockey Day in Houston event is Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. at Saint Arnold Brewery’s beer garden.
