When Donald Trump is on trial, you know The View is going to dive right in. And the women of the Hot Topics table did just that on today’s episode, with Joy Behar leading the charge in a fiery discussion about Trump’s ongoing legal woes.
The one-term POTUS is being accused of earning more than $100 million through lying about his real estate business, with Attorney General Letitia James seeking $250 million in fines, a permanent ban on business in New York against Trump and his sons, and a five-year commercial real estate ban against him and his organization, per Reuters.
Behar predicted Trump is shaking in his boots but trying to put on a strong face, telling the panel, “If you watch him, I was home yesterday watching him, he really looks scared. He’s very defiant, but that’s a cover.”
She continued, “This is what he cares about. He doesn’t care about his children, he doesn’t care about the country. He only cares about his money and power. And to stay out of jail.”
Behar reiterated, “I think he’s scared and I think he’s very nervous.”
Alyssa Farah Griffin, who used to work for Trump before resigning in late 2020, agreed with Behar, pointing to Trump’s trial loss against E. Jean Carroll, who accused him on sexual abuse.
“He didn’t bother to show up [to the trial],” she said. “Now tell me if there is a man you know in your life who, if they were falsely accused of rape, wouldn’t go to the mat to defend their name. He didn’t bother showing up, but he shows up for this? He cares more about the perception of being wealthy than he does about clearing his name of sexual assault.”
Later in the segment, Griffin took a dig at Trump’s prized properties, which are at the center of the trial. “I’ve been to Mar-a-Lago, I’ve been to Doral — they’re quite nice … but in Palm Beach alone, there’s five nicer clubs.”
Sunny Hostin joined in, too, telling the panel, “And the Trump Building is so gross. Come on, people. It’s so ostentatious. I wouldn’t even enter in there if I were dying of thirst.”
While Trump can’t go to jail for the civil case he’s involved in, Behar still called for the one-term president to land in a cell at the end of the segment: “Lock him up, lock him up. He can exaggerate the size of his cell, I don’t care. Just put him in jail already!”
Hostin reminded her, “This is a civil case,” but Behar retorted, “Whatever! Lock him up.”
The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
