The Kardashians returned to Hulu on September 28 with a dramatic Season 4 premiere. But in the twist of all twists, the episode’s biggest reveal was about...Yellowstone.
That’s right, Dutton fans. Despite the Season 4 premiere’s title, “You’re A Witch And I Hate You,” referencing a scathing Kim and Kourtney fight that played out at the top of the episode, Taylor Sheridan’s beloved Western drama and actor Kevin Costner (aka John Dutton) stole the spotlight during the Kardashian family vacation in Cabo. Why? Because Kris Jenner’s man Corey Gamble was nearly cast on the popular series, but gave up the opportunity of a lifetime because Kris told him to. Yikes!
Here’s the deal: The premiere follows Kris and Corey, Kim and Khloé Kardashian, and Kendall and Kylie Jenner on a retreat to Cabo for family time, relaxation, a guacamole-making competition, and some thirst trap photoshoots. After Khloé has some quality freakouts over whales and the group sets their intentions for the year, they meet for one final dinner and watch a fire-dancing performance before packing.
After Kendall and Kylie excuse themselves from the table, Kim tells Khloé, Kris, and Corey she’s so excited to wash her face, and Kris casually replies, “I’m so excited to watch the next episode of Yellowstone.” Then, the bomb is dropped.
“If it wasn’t for you I would be a Yellowstone star,” Corey, a credited actor and producer, says with a playful grudge. Without breaking a sweat, Kris says she knows, and Kim — acting on behalf of all viewers — follows up for more info.
“They asked you to be on Yellowstone?! And you said no?!” she asks Cory, baffled.
“Correct,” Kris replies with a smile. “Cause I told him to say no.”
Thankfully, Kim wasn’t satisfied with that vague AF explanation and pressed her mom for answers, asking, “Why would you tell him to turn down Yellowstone?!” The real reason? Brace yourself, people. Kris thought Corey “was gonna have to have a romantic relationship” so she shut it down in advance.
Considering Yellowstone has a huge following, is on its fifth season, and stars big names like Kevin Costner, Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, Luke Grimes, and Wes Bentley — to name just a few — asking someone you love to turn down a role in the critically series is a HUGE request. Not only that, but Kris Jenner’s daughters had a feeling if the roles were reversed and she was the one offered a role on the series, she’d say yes in a heartbeat.
“OK. But if they said they wanted you to star and kiss Kevin Costner I’m sure you would take it,” Khloé says. “Oh that’s a hard yes,” Kris laughs, inspiring a pointed glance from Corey. “OK so bring on the saddle,” Khloé jokes. And Corey, without missing a beat, says, “Now I know my next role.”
“Now you know your next roleplay,” Kim laughs. “Kevin Costner.”
It’s unclear which role Kris Jenner’s beau was offered on Sheridan’s series, whether he auditioned for the part or was sought out, or what season he would have appeared in, but I think I speak for all crossover fans when I say we need to know everything about the Kardashians to Yellowstone pipeline.
Here’s hoping more Yellowstone goss is revealed later in the season. In the wise words of Khloé Kardashian, “Saddle up, Corey!”
New episodes of The Kardashians premiere Thursdays on Hulu.
